casanare + bogotá 2027
two ecosystems. two opposite cities. discover colombia’s concrete jungle and actual jungle with us.
awaken to howling monkeys outside your window, ride horses across the colombian savanna, observe ancient tropical bird species, stroll through bogotá’s 400-year old cobblestone streets, make friends for life. this is a matria travel experience.
casanare: rich wildlife, barefoot cowboys, folkloric heritage in the eastern plains of colombia
home to nearly 700 bird species, tropical savanna, green wetlands, and mythical sunsets, casanare is a remote region lush with wildlife and a quick plane ride away from colombia’s capital city, bogotá.
bogotá: cosmopolitan vibrance, gritty street art, charming architecture in colombia’s capital city
a massive metropolis humming with creative energy, bogotá is a city of contrasts: life-changing street food once you’ve. had your fill of fine dining, artisan goods after window shopping at high end boutiques, streets adorned with graffiti as you walk to some of latin america’s best galleries and museums.
time to touch grass.
this is an adventure to connect with what’s real. misty, purple dawn skies, wildlife in its own habitat, the deep exhale from a nervous system completely unplugged and supported by your community of travelers, nature, and your hosts.
some of the schedule
wildlife experiences: join us on a safari llanero in the eastern plains of colombia, exploring on an open-air safari cruiser and on horseback. with luck, we’ll observe capybaras, anteaters, deer, caimans, palm bears, howling monkeys, and maybe even jaguars, not to mention the over 700 bird species that call casanare home.
immersions into history, culture, & art: enjoy a guided historical tour of bogotá’s colonial quarter dating back over 400 years, a dance class learning the basics of joropo- casanare’s traditional, energetic dance born from the vast fields colombian cowboys have tended to for generations, and take in the iconic street art from local and international artists that adorns colombia’s capital city.
shopping excursions: picture a mix of handmade goods, markets, high end boutiques, and rummaging through vintage shops. we’ll make sure your shopping is varied, exciting, and above all, local.
a little bit everything: our trip isn’t complete without delicious, traditional meals, tejo (colombia’s national sport, known for mixing beer and gunpowder), nights out with our vibrant group of travelers, and so much more.
real community: a matria experience is nothing without incredible people. prepare to add 12 new besties to your life.

where we’ll stay in casanare: casa cumbres hotel
Finca Ecológica Casa Cumbres was created by a local family with the desire to create a haven for reforestation and ecological preservation in the region. Not only is it a gorgeous property complete with a pool, hot tub, delicious meals and relaxing hammocks, it is also a woman-led conservation project going on 22 years.
During this time the family has transformed 200 hectares of land into a thriving ecosystem which hosts wild native fauna like birds and monkeys. They protected the land’s natural streams and waterfalls, then decided to open a boutique eco-lodge that works in total harmony with the environment. When you visit you can feel their love for the land, the people and the fauna of this beautiful part of Colombia.
